Planning Your Vacation

Most visitors plan their own trip with information contained in this website and help from the rental agent, Elbow Cay Properties. Travel agents seldom have the experience or contacts to make all the necessary reservations. Sure, it's more effort, but realize that this also keeps the crowds away.

Of greatest importance is advance planning. The more popular rental houses and boats are booked far in advance, particularly during the busy season or holidays.

1. Pick Your Dates

Calypso, with its screened porch, ocean and land decks, and air conditioning, is comfortable and appealing throughout the year. However, there are times when all rental houses on the island are in great demand, so the sooner you can pick your dates, the better the odds of securing the house when you want it.

2. Reserve the House

The rental agent for Calypso is Elbow Cay Properties. This is a small agency providing very personalized attention and typically you'll be talking directly with the owners, Carrie Cash or Jane Patterson, or Jane's mother, Mary. They will gladly answer your questions or offer suggestions.

3. Reserve the Boat and Golf Cart

Like the houses, the best boats from the best companies are reserved far in advance. The larger boats (20'-25') give a better ride when breezy and can also extend your comfortable travel range. There isn't a huge difference in rental rates, so get the largest boat available. The 23' and 25' boats can handle 12 people if there are 6 adults and 6 younger children. For 12 adults, renting two 20' or larger boats is advisable. Calypso has a private dock on Nigh Creek, a short walk away that will comfortably accommodate two boats.

With the recent addition of more carts by several of the cart rental companies, availability has been greatly improved. Be aware that no more than 4 adults can ride in one cart, so plan accordingly.

See the "Getting Around" and "More Info/Links" pages for boat and cart rental links.

4. Make Airline Reservations

With numerous air carriers and charter planes available, finding air transportation should be easy, though book early for better fares and selections. See the Getting Around and Links/Contacts pages for airline information.
